Exposing your sources...

Concerning the Washington Post's article at http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/30/AR2005063000205_pf.html entitled "Time Magazine to Hand Over Reporter Notes", I have some observations:
Time Magazine statement says it believes "the Supreme Court has limited press freedom in ways that will have a chilling effect on our work and that may damage the free flow of information that is so necessary in a democratic society."
I say that the reporters involved have limited the CIA's freedom in ways that will have a chilling effect on THEIR work and that may damage the free flow of INTELLIGENCE that is so necessary in a democratic society.
Not to mention the fact that the agent's life has been placed in grave danger!
I believe in the sanctity of the freedom of the press...however...not at the expense of the HIGHER PRINCIPLE, the life and security of another American, especially one who is a public servant. Another higher principle is national security. Leaking sensitive intelligence such as this to the world is setting a precedent for things our country does not need to experience.
The article also says that "Robert Bennett, representing Miller, told the judge in asking for more time that 'it's a big step to put two people in jail who have committed no crimes.'"
Compromising American agents IS criminal and treasonous, Mr. Bennett. So is contempt of court.

President Bush's speech

The speech by the President last night was a reassuring one. Not that I needed reassuring...but some Americans and people around the world do.
One of the items that critics are harping on is President Bush's repeated mention of September 11th.
The President said in the first moments of the speech, "The troops here and across the world are fighting a global war on terror. The war reached our shores on September the 11th, 2001. The terrorists who attacked us -- and the terrorists we face -- murder in the name of a totalitarian ideology that hates freedom, rejects tolerance, and despises all dissent."
I don't see this statement as identifying the terrorists who we are fighting now as the same people who attacked us. It is the IDEOLOGY that is the subject of the statement. The ideology is one of extreme Islamism, a doctrine of exclusionism, hatred, and violence. This ideology has no problems with targeting, torturing, and murdering innocent men, women, and children to promote its agenda.
This is the SAME ideology as that which drove the al Quaida terrorists to fly planes into our buildings.
The ideology is the common denominator. Let's presume that the terrorists in Iraq do not...and have never...had anything to do with 9/11. So what?! They STILL are terrorists who want to kill us...and have an agenda to do so. This IS the war on terror. This is NOT the war on al Quaida. It is not the war on Osama bin Ladin. It is not the war on Saddam Hussein. It is the war on TERRORISM. And that is who we are fighting in Iraq.
Those who criticize the war are merely politicizing it. They are driven, not by conscience or conviction, but by a hatred of President George W. Bush.
This hatred drives them to politicize not only the war but every issue in President Bush's agenda. Judicial nominees, Social Security reform, tax cuts, national security, the Patriot Act, etc., just to name a few.
They knowingly and purposefully speak destructive words that undermine our efforts in Iraq, ruffling the feathers of our Arab neighbors, and increasing the danger to our military in hotspots around the world.

Billy Graham...pro-Hilary?!

Sean has interviewed Franklin Graham several times and has given him very fair opportunities to answer questions with "Christian" terms, sometimes even preaching the gospel in the interview. I am gleeful at this fact.
I have been an admirer of Rev. Billy Graham, Franklin's father and who has been a renowned evangelist for over five decades...until now.
During Rev. Graham's "last" crusade in New York, he gave Bill and Hilary Clinton...and the Democrat party...his full support. Rev. Graham claims to be a lifelong Democrat.
I cannot reconcile one's allegiance to God and their co-allegiance to a party that promotes the very things that God hates...namely the murder of unborn children and the sin of homosexuality.
If you take your relationship to God seriously, Rev. Graham...then you take seriously what He says. You love the things He loves...and you hate the things He hates.
I'm very disappointed when someone puts their political allegiance ABOVE their allegiance to God.

Hilary?! I thought...

Wait a minute! Hilary Clinton, when asked about Dick Durbin's recent remarks, said that she didn't want to talk about that issue...but wanted to talk about her new bill.
Yet when Karl Rove, speaking to a group of Conservatives, voiced his observations of the different responses to 911 by Liberals versus Conservatives...suddenly she has an issue she will talk about. She is demanding an apology from Rove for his remarks, and that he resign.
I don't get it, Senator Clinton! You don't want to discuss Dick Durbin's remarks but you are eager to discuss Karl Rove's remarks. What a double standard.
Karl Rove's remarks were made in a private conference with a group of Conservatives. Durbin's remarks were made ON THE SENATE FLOOR!!! On the record for historical archival...
Rove's remarks were aimed at Liberals and Conservatives, descriptors that are dependent upon a person's behavior, voting history, and worldview. The Liberal and Conservative responses to 911 have been documented by their own words, the press, and their respective voting records.
Durbin's remarks were aimed at a SPECIFIC company of people...the American soldier...namely the ones who are directly in charge of the detainees in Gitmo.
Do America a favor. Get out of politics, Hilary. They may hire you at Saturday Night Live because everything you say is comedy and not to be taken seriously.

Ask them, Sean Hannity!

Sean, next time you have a dissenting senator on your program, ask them to form a Congressional delegation to visit Gitmo FIRSTHAND and see what they say. Let them be accompanied by the press corps in order to document the investigation.
What you wanna bet they poo-poo the idea?

Hillary Clinton - skirt

A sound byte played by Sean today showed the duplicity of Hilary Clinton (D) NY. She skirted the issue when questioned about Sen. Dick Durbin's (D) IL, dastardly remarks. She said that she would rather talk about her latest bill because it had the "potential of saving people's lives".
What about the potential that Sen. Durbin's remarks will ENDANGER people's lives, namely our soldiers? The Senator's remarks are being used in Middle Eastern press RIGHT NOW to incite emotions and provoke violence.
Thank you, Dickie, for your "contributions" to the security of our country. You'll go down in history the same way as Benedict Arnold. Your legacy will be one of disgrace. Along with all of the political leaders who defend your remarks and don't call for your public and immediate apology to the country and to our troops.

"Detainee"?

Every time Sean plays the sound byte of Dick Durbin and I hear him use the phrase about the barefoot "detainee" shivering in the air conditioning...I get tee'd. Call them what they are, Senator Durbin. TERRORISTS. When you use the term "detainee" you water down the depravity of these soul-less thugs.

The acquittal of Michael Jackson...

I heard a great quip by Jay Leno that would have been a good reference for Sean:
Paraphrased, it went something like this:
"I was wondering...
How does this make Martha Stewart feel? O.J. goes free. Robert Blake walks. Michael Jackson is found not guilty. She made a phone call.
'Hello, is this my broker?'
Prison!"
Makes you think.

What's up with Sean?

This is my attempt to inject some political reason into the mix after viewing or listening to TV and radio broadcasts made by Sean Hannity, a conservative political analyst and pundit on the Fox News Channel and ABC News Radio, respectively.
Sean was talking today about Dick Durbin's remarks concerning the alleged mistreatment of the Guantanamo Bay detainees.
My thoughts: I think that Dick Durbin is using this non-issue as a Bush-bashing maneuver. He, along with many of the left-leaners, must have never viewed the horrific beheading of Mr. Nick Berg. When I saw this video, I didn't care WHAT our guys did to them. Defecate on their faces for all I care. He must have forgotten the gut-wrenching sight of people jumping out of the twin towers after the jihadists attacked us. He apparently does not understand the complete depravity of those who are housed in Gitmo.
These detainees are not mere criminals like a car thief in Brooklyn. They are TERRORISTS who have been caught in the act of killing our soldiers, killing innocent civilians, laying out roadside bombs, protecting other terrorists, etc.
They do NOT deserve the American legal system. They are NOT Americans. We are NOT bound by the Geneva Convention. They are NOT members of a national military entity recognized by the community of nations. These are subhumans who target the innocent.
The likes of Senator Durbin have compared the treatment of these detainees to Hitleristic methods and other historical atrocities. There is a huge difference between our side and their side. Our side protects and defends the innocent. Their side targets the innocent. Our side feeds those who are less fortunate, providing medical treatment when necessary. Their side is not concerned for the hungry and sick, but simply wants to spread their religion of hatred and violence to all the world, killing those who they consider to be infidels.
Sean, tell Senator Durbin that HE is out of the mainstream of American thought and he needs to view a refresher video of the downing of the towers and the murder of Mr. Berg.
I wonder what Durbin would do if these Islamic extremists were to directly target one of HIS family members? What would he tolerate in treatment then? Would rap music or cold air conditioning or extreme heat be too much then? It may have not affected you directly, Senator Durbin, but it HAS affected some of your fellow Americans directly.
